How to Join Us
We are always looking to share our joy of singing with other men.
If you are male, your voice has broken, can sing in tune and enjoy good humour and company you will fit in very well! You do not need to be able to read music (many choristers cannot read music to a high level) nor be able to sing a solo – but those that can will still be welcome of course and there are opportunities for those who wish to perform solos etc. at concerts.
Rehearsals take place each Tuesday evening from 7.30pm to 9.30 pm at the
Welsh Chapel on the corner of Bath Street and Loveday Street in the centre of
Birmingham. There is free on road parking around the chapel.

We are a 10-12 minute walk from New Street station and a 5 minute walk from
Snow Hill Station. Numerous bus stops can be found in nearby Snow Hill and
the A34 towards Perry Barr and Walsall.
When you attend your first rehearsal you will be introduced to our MD, Steve who will chat through how you would like to play things - which may even just to be to listen to the rehearsal at first. Initially, based on your chat with him you will be allocated to one of the 4 voice lines (2 lots of tenors and 2 lots of bass) and only when you feel ready will Steve privately take you through a few singing exercises designed simply to ensure you can sing in tune and allocate you to the voice line most suited to your level. You’ll be teamed up with a mentor buddy - an established choir member - who’ll help you with anything you don’t understand and who’ll be your go-to person in future weeks as you settle in. After that it’s up to you to learn enough songs to be able to participate in your first concert – when you feel ready, there will be no pressure.
Rehearsals start with some voice warm up and vocal technique exercises lasting about 10 minutes. Then we will usually rehearse a number of songs getting them ready for upcoming concerts; quite often we split the choir between 2 rooms to rehearse individual voice parts more efficiently. We have a tea break when there is ample opportunity to get to know other choristers.
To assist you, we provide printed copies of all music you will need, sound files of your voice line and a simple guide to music notation as well as any other advice you might need.
Most of the choir’s income is generated via concert donations etc. meaning that only a modest membership charge of a fraction over £2 per week is made to members to cover music, uniforms and rehearsal refreshments etc.
After being formally enrolled into the choir, you will be issued with a choir jacket and tie (free of charge) which you keep for the duration of your time in the choir. You will need to provide your own black trousers, white shirt, black shoes and black socks.
We look forward to welcoming you!
